There are three types of Writing Retreat offered through Write On Changemakers.

The first are online retreats which provide the chance for people to have the experience of writing alongside others. These are led by Max Hope and start with a check-in, a set of agreements, and an outline of the theme. Each session always includes the invitation to write, and prompts and provocations are offered to support those who don’t always know where to get started. This can be a rich opportunity to get going with some writing, within a specified time boundary, and to have the chance to reflect with others about the process. Each session ends with an invitation to set an intention or goal to maintain the writing practice at home.

The second are face-to-face writing retreats that provide a supportive, guided space to think about writing, talk about writing, and … get writing. These take place on location in the UK and are usually for one day or a full weekend. They usually have a theme which provides a focus for the retreat and helps potential participants to know whether this is the right retreat for them. They are fully catered and involve only small groups at a time. One-to-one support and feedback is available. These offer a rich opportunity to reconnect with our activism and our drive whilst also working on our writing.

The third are Soul Fire Writing Retreats which are run by Max Hope and Sophie Christophy, and bring together activists and changemakers to work together on a shared writing project, as well as having space to talk and think about activism and about their changemaking work. These are residential, fully catered, and usually have a theme. Information on previous and current retreats can be found here.
